SD Alteisen Riese Resin kit – Initial thoughts

December 31, 2008 |  by Jacques  |  W.I.P

It was my very first time at ordering a resin kit and also the first time buying from e2046.com. Overall, the staff were very helpful & patient at answering my questions & solving my problems, and my order arrived within 5 days by airmail.

Upon opening, there was a very strong chemical smell. I proceeded immediately to wash the parts in soap water first to rid off any potential leftover chemical during the the kit’s production. The smell was not as strong as compared to the beginning after initial wash, but still mildly noticeable though. Having no prior experience with handling a resin kit before, the learning curve at assembling a resin kit proved to be tough for a first-timer and amateur like me. It took me an entire afternoon to re-sort & group the parts according their respective body parts group.

Instruction guide was not entirely helpful either, as the diagram of the parts drawn were far from accurate. Together with the provided urlBurivary System, being unavailable, didn’t help either. A-third of the parts, especially the smaller pieces were unrecognizable and they were only found after doing an elimination method ; by sorting out parts that were more recognizable first, and then identifying what’s left according to the part number yet to be crossed out.  To make it worse, joint parts were not provided in the kit. They had to be purchase separately by myself. :s Wished this they had been mentioned on the product page to & spare me the trouble on sourcing around for the parts after purchasing.

Below is a list of parts that you have to buy separately if you also have the same kit or planning to buy one:

  • Wave PC-03 x 2,
  • Yellow Submarine joints x 2
  • 3mm rods

At the moment, this kit will be put on-hold till I find the required joint parts for the assembly. Meanwhile, I’ll just still do some sanding here and there before proceeding to do priming. Went down to Hobby Point’s Century Square branch but only found the Wave PC-03 parts, with the remainder still missing-in-action. On a side-note, it seems that the shopkeeper at Tampines Century Square branch has been replaced. The new shopkeeper who took over, looked inexperienced and real lost. A real pity that the previous keeper isn’t around anymore, he was able to provide valuable advise and pointers on plastic-modeling. Anyone in Singapore know where I can find the Yellow Submarine Parts locally? Else, which online store can I buy them from? I’m thinking of making a trip to Sunshine Plaza area & Achtung to try my luck. If all else fail, I’ll just have to improvise and use other joint materials to complete the project.

  • @sentinel011,
really appreciate the help and thanks for the suggestion on the alternatives. Remember vaguely seeing them somewhere amongst the mention list of shop but just can't remember which.
  • The joints can either be found at M workshop, or Hobby Art Gallery at Sunshine Plaza.

If both don't have what you're looking for, you might want to try the branch of Hobby Point at Tiong Bahru Plaza.
  • @eyeshield20,
it's not from Kotobukiya. Can't think of the right word/phrase to explain it correctly at the moment. It's more like personally /privately-made, rather than made by usual companies like Bandai & Kotobukiya.
