Stumbled upon this while surfing the net recently. “Cat Shit One“( also known as “Apocalypse Meow”) is the title of an anime that is set to debut in Japan this winter.
It’s based on a manga by Motofumi Kobayashi, spanning 17 chapters in total. For those of you who can’t wait or are eager to learn more about the title; You can catch the manga first over at MangaFox under the title ‘Apocalypse Meow‘ before the show debuts in winter.
The story revolves around Sergeant Perky, Rats and Botasky, the “men” (or bunnies, as it were) of Catshit One, a special forces unit engaged in risky missions involving recon patrol, jungle ambushes, tactical assaults and rescue operations. The American soldiers in the story are portray as rabbits, Vietnamese as cats, Chinese as pandas & other animals representing various nationalities involved in the war.
Why animals instead of people were used in the depiction of war, you asked? Because the author, Mr Kobayashi thought that a standard war comic would be “boring.” Hence, he thought of the idea of recreating the horrific violence and vivid military exploits in the conflict using these cute anthropomorphic animals; in order to give readers & viewers a stronger impact and feeling of the misery of the wars that are taking place in this world.
Without boring you any further, below is the trailer of the show shown in the recent TAF (Tokyo International Anime Fair).
At the moment, I’m caught up with the feeling of how cute it is to see these animals engage in military warfare, instead of experiencing & feeling the misery of war that the author wishes to convey & bring across to us. ^^”
What about you guys after seeing and reading about this? What are your thoughts on this? And will you be catching this?
