Finally gotten the Powershot G10 from Canon from my neighborhood after much consideration. The damage for getting this camera? $800 Singapore Dollars which converts to roughly around 533US Dollar.
Though initially I did contemplate about getting a DSLR; considering just by topping up another $100 to $400 to G10’s price, I could have landed my self a pretty decent entry level DSLR. Deciding that I couldn’t lunge around a DSLR plus the lens since it would be too much of a hassle & not practical for me. I settled for the G10 instead, which is more compact despite being sightly heavier compared to your typical point & shoot cameras. Though heavier but the G10 feels very sturdy and solidly-built. And the startup is also instantaneous too, which is great if there’s a candid and impromtu moment waiting to be captured. Not to bore you to death with all the nitty-gritty details, below is a list of summary of the camera’s specs and features. Features at a glance:
- 14.7 Megapixel CCD sensor
- 5x wide-angle (28mm) optical zoom lens with optical Image Stabilizer
- RAW image recording plus support for Canon Digital Photo Professional
- DIGIC 4 for clear, sharp images, high-speed AF (including Servo AF) and fast response times
- Targets all the main causes of blur with High ISO Auto, optical Image Stabilizer, Motion Detection Technology and Auto ISO shift
- Great people shots with improved Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB plus Face Select & Track and FaceSelf-Timer
- 3.0” PureColor LCD II (461k dots resolution) with wide viewing angle and optical viewfinder
- i-Contrast boosts brightness and retains detail in dark areas
- Dedicated Exposure Compensation and ISO dials
- 26 shooting modes with manual control and custom settings
- Accessories include tele-converter, Speedlite flashes and waterproof case
- Smooth, 30fps VGA movies
With the purchase of the G10, I will now be able to take photos of my completed gunpla collection and even keep a photo log of my W.I.Ps. But not without getting my D.I.Y light tent/booth done up first, I’ll have to go and do some shopping and get my hands dirty first before beginning 1st gunpla photo shoot.. provided that I complete them 1st ^^” Below are some initial test shoot:
SD Astray Red Gundam. Was reminded that this dude over here was only 70% completed when I saw I haven’t finish doing the panel lines for the head and feet too, turns out I only done the lining for one feet and forgotten about the other. ^^’
My Digi Mascot Haro sitting on top of my computer table. Currently , turned it off since it can be real annoying and scaring whenever it ‘talked’ especially in the late night when it’s dead quiet.
Kibougo from Mars Daybreak; currently attempting Max Painting method on it. Can’t wait to see the completed paint job. Hope I don’t screw up :p
My 1st MG (Master Grade) kit: God Gundam (known as Burning Gundam in North America). Pretty bad job, see those nubs sticking out from the V-fin and the lousy panel lines done by me? I promise I’ll do a facelift for you when I’m done with the rest.
SD RX-78 Gundam assembled straight 0ut-0f-Box. no paint what-so-ever, only did panel lining for him.
SD (Super Deformed) ZZ Gundam. Spray-painted with Nippon Pylox Spray Can, which turned out unexpectedly well. And yeah, those are dust is settling on the my models. A reminder that I need a glass display shelves to keep them dust-free. Currently, they are all sitting up on my cupboard shelves but the doors are not air-tight since they were custom-made cupboards left behind from the previous owner of the house. Lousy job there done by those guys I must say.
The statue given to me by my NS unit when I ‘ORD’ upon completion of my 2 years of NS (National Service).

Madness, the G10 is no significant improvement over G9 and the Panasonic LX3 is by far miles better with a faster lens (f 2.0!) and the widest (24mm) on the market! Plus it looks better.
Truth be told, for taking Gundam/figurine pictures, a good PnS with full controls is actually better than an SLR due to the bulky size interfering with interesting angles.
the G10 is as solid as a tank and so are the photos it can take. Great choice! For taking photos of Gunpla, this is pretty much perfect.
not bad. not bad or shall i say.. who knows one day you can be a pro by taking photos of some others and participate in a photo-taking contest like my cousin did last year who won in the 2nd place.keep up the good work. pratice makes perfect though. oh btw,i like your SDs.and..also others. when i saw them,i smile. i’ve never seen kibougo(mars daybreak’s mecha)before and yeah,it’s so nice.and the proud soldier statue given to you by the NS unit is way too cool! very smart..i love it!^^ sir,i salute you!do your best&be the best!
