Battle-Damaged Cherudim Gundam Diorama
Friday, May 22nd, 2009
This battle-damaged Cherudim Gundam diorama is done by lee3000 who intended to submit it as an entry for the upcoming Gundam 00 Mid-Year Competition over in Singapore.

A glimpse of Cherudim Gundam in one piece before he is being subjected to some battle-damage for his idea of diorama and setup. Below are some snapshots of what he do and how he did it to accomplish the battle-damage effect.

Wires are being inserted into crippled limbs to add realism to a battle-damaged mobile suit.

Initial look after subjecting the poor gundam to some cruel and inhuman torture.

The wire has been repainted.

If you’re wondering how these ‘laser holes’ on Cherudim Gundam are made, they are created by pushing a burning joss stick into the gunpla. If done correctly, this will created a bulge surrounding the hole. Thereafter, a ball type drill bit is used clear the contents of the hole to make them clean. Lastly, some thin cement is applied to the holes to melt them.

Completed diorama. (Trees are first painted with Orange followed by Salmon Red)

What do you think of his Gundam 00 diorama? And how did it fare when compared against the Gundam 00 ending 2 look?

Wow! The first time i see 2nd ED Clip is this! I wondered if there is someone who will make diorama like that, and here it is.
I was thinking bout placing Seravee at freezer, Arios at fish pool, and 00 at some garden. Lol.

I somehow find the pose looks a little unnatural to me, but otherwise a really good work there! The battle damage effects are surely impressive~

The damage effect is nice, but doesn’t seem to be “extensive” enough as compared to the ending scene…
Even if someone gave me a gunpla for my birthday or i get it some way for free i just doubt i’d damage my kit just like that for a diorama, except there’s a guarantee i get 1000 dollars or a win in return if i use my damaged kit-turned-into-diorama for competitions… lol…^^; Except i have damaged kits myself that i couldn’t find a way to repair it…

Wow looks good, the bullet holes on the leg look good but on the chest and armor they look a little too…idk round I guess, too fake.
The diorama as a whole looks good, the bright trees make great contrast but the ground looks too perfect for a fallen gundam with immense battle damage. Should have made it more rugged,dirty, and maybe a crater like the gundam fell from the sky and crashed into the ground because the in the diorama it’s too flat. Nevertheless a good job, Kudos to him for his hard work

The paintwork’s good, although the burnt holes look a bit too uniform & perfect (if you look closely at the ED you’d see that the holes are unevenly shaped). Perhaps lee3000 could scatter his damaged/dislocated Gundam Cherudim parts in his diorama…that would give it the sense of ruin depicted in the ED.

I’d try something like this if I can get myself a soldering iron, and spare money for a kit to trash.
Details are great, but I agree with Q that the pose seems unnatural.

looks goods to me. impressive.
only suggestion if i may add is perhaps to have it lay flatly on the ground. from the pic, it’s right shoulder and right knee are in the air. looks unnatural. my 2 cents.

awesome. i wish i can do this too

@Eyeshield30,
lol. that would work well as a spoof of some sort or in a 4–koma comic.
@Q, GNdynames, gordon
yes, the way that Cherudim rests on the ground looks awkward. The ‘blocky’ parts on a gundam makes it hard to lie on the ground naturally unless he pushed it hard against the ground and make a depression. That should probably make it better.
@EXKurogane,
I admit the challenge & thought of damaging a kit just to recreate an effect or scene is daunting. Especially, when you paid your hard-earned money for it. Unless, it’s free which would be a totally-different thing all together.
As for the ‘extensive’ damage, I believe any more would possibly break or crack the kit. So it’s safer to be cautious with them.
@Roy,
the holes in the chest were result of a mess-up & accident if I remember right. Hence, there’s a difference look & feel between the 2. A crater-like depression on the ground like you suggested would properly look much more natural. Since it’s impossible for such a heavy object to be lying on the ground without making any marks or indentions.
@deathscythe,
good point there, they do looked too consistent on the chest portion to look random.
