Custom MG FA Gundam Unicorn
Monday, January 11th, 2010
Remember this in SG BAKUC 09 Preview? Our 1st spotlight for 2010 focus on the Custom FA Unicorn Gundam by Izzaku81. He has recently finished up with the photoshoot and has put them up for viewing over at his site.
The modifications that he has done for the kit as followed:

The big gun done with Zeta ver.2, C1 plus, PG astray and plaplate. He chose to retain the initial red scheme instead of the green scheme for full-armour version

the chest, groin and legs, reversed V-fin has be remodeled thought a series of trial & error, to give a more 3-dimensional look

internal modifications are also done for improved posability, e.g. mods to allow the legs bend more (and these are done internally so they are not visible from the exterior), etc

The tubes on the back are actually erasers from Daiso

wings are scratch-built from pla-plates
Head over to his website to view the full set of photos @ http://www.gmrevo.com/gallery_unicorn.htm
In addition, some of you might realised that this is also the champion of BAKUC Grand Final 2009. What are your thoughts and comments of this winning entry after seeing photos of it up close?

This is indeed awesome. But my own personal choice goes to the zaku with the big round machine. Too bad it seemed the guy who made the zaku didn;t have enough time for the dio anymore.

heathorn,
It’s really unfortunate and a pity that he didn’t have enough time to work on the dio. Otherwise, I’m quite sure it will shine.

This is WIN!! would be better if the background was black though.

Gunstray,
Indeed, a black background might be preferred but the armaments might not stand out as well as it currently does on a white background. Because they are also dark colors so they might blend into the background.

As I see the real thing during AFA 09, I would say this is an awesome work. One thing I like compare with the Big Zaku is that… His work is considered half diorama, and It is really well done.
If I’m the judge, I would give higher marks for the Zaku’s building and design, but this Unicorn impressed me with its “whole package” and the effort even for the diorama.

B-Mecha,
The zaku mod won me over in terms of originality, but was let-down by poor finish due to insufficient time. It would be great to be able to see how it turns out without the time constraint. The FA Unicorn came out stronger in terms of overall presentations.

Nah. It’s impossible for me to reply 5.30am in the morning, I replied in the afternoon if I remembered correctly. Guess I should adjust the time to reflect accurately the timezone that I’m in.
No worries about the late reply
Everyone is busy with their own life, so it’s not possible to reply immediately all the time.

Seeing all these wonderful customs makes me want to buy my own MG Unicorn. I hope I have the time and patience to learn even the basics of customization. ^^;

Hi there Xine,
I have a MG Unicorn myself and the kit is pretty tall.
If you don’t mind a small scale, you could settle for the HG version. Or if you don’t mind getting a second-hand and built MG, you could even buy it from me :p It’s somewhat too big for my liking. Had both been released at the same time, I would have settle for the HG version.
