Death & Rebirth

Sorry to disappoint you, if you came here expecting the post to be on Neon Genesis Evangelion. Unfortunately, it’s not. Anyway, back to the main point; This piece of news was first spotted by un1ver5e over at DC.com. Let us first admire the photos of this piece of work before going further.

The lifeless shell of Freedom Gundam being left behind.
I’m sure many of us here has seen our fair share of amazing mods & dioramas before, ever since we got involved into gundam. But has anyone of us came across a diorama as striking and novel like the above? I sure haven’t until I saw this.
Apparently, the modeler was inspired by Mother Nature, using the idea of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon after metamorphosis. (or a snake shedding it skin if you liked.) He utilised the very same concept and materialised it into diorama form, with the Strike Freedom Gundam emerging from the shell of the fallen Freedom Gundam.

A fresh & novel concept indeed as mentioned by un1ver5e. He was also suggesting about recreating the very same concept, using Wing Gundam (above) & Wing Zero Custom as the subject instead of Freedom which I’m sure that it will packed more impact if one was able to pulled it off successfully. Are you up for the task to attempt to do a similar diorama if a challenge was thrown to you? Original link and entire picture gallery here. All Credits to un1ver5e for this great discovery.
crazy, and yes wing gundam will have better impact compared to freedom. the looks of wing is just magical

Great find. I say it’s pretty well thought out, but by no means perfect. I think this is something that works better with a little photoshoping or animation because it is trying to imply slow motion. In my opinion, the extra wings didn’t fit really well and looks more like an add on than shedding.
Still, great idea and execution. I really like the smaller details such as half the head on the floor and hole in the chest (wish there were pictures of that).

well…I saw this in DC.com few days ago but I can’t find it now.BTW thx for posting this. I think this is great idea after all…does the builder use clear ver freedom and MG strike freedom? Or it’s a full mods?

It’s beautiful. And the modeller even painted the minuscule Kira figure inside the cockpit too!
The underlying concept is swell, and what makes this model amazing in my opinion is how the diorama becomes part of the mobile suit on display. Usually dioramas tend to be separate from the robot, the former being merely a backdrop of sorts to highlight the the mobile suit’s splendour. However instead of making the Strike Freedom the centrepiece in & of itself, it fuses with (or rather sheds) the broken Freedom shell. Absolutely outstanding.
The closest I ever saw to such mobile suit metamorphosis on display was at Taka last year, when they displayed the winners of some modelling competition. A modeller actually rigged up Virtue to shed its armour & reveal Nadleeh within. Now that’s cool too.

The new look of evolutionXD. Beautiful diorama Im amazed at the lifeless shell and that some of the part thats still clinging on freedom. Kinda reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq4r30Ero2w.

It’s just amazing. Not only a beautiful diorama, cuz for me i’ll never dare to strip up and damage a MG kit that cost me a lot of $$ like that (the remains of Freedom) just to make a fantastic diorama like that…

Hmm…why is Strike Freedom holding a joined double Excalibur? At first I was puzzled as to why it’s even hold the Excalibur in the first place, until I realised this rebirth is to show its state after being pierced by Impulse’s Excalibur.
Still, Shinn only used one Excalibur…hmm……
