A follow-up to W.I.P. SD BB Senshi 00 Gundam preview

The plastic tray which I use to keep my clippers, doubles as drying bay for holding freshly airbrushed parts. So far so good in the priming phase.

The priming phase went by smoothly without hiccups, but tragedy soon struck at the beginning of airbrushing phase. Being my first time using Mr. Color Gundam Color white, I went about thinning it with the usual potion as I did for Mr. Aqueous Hobby Color. The result was quite disastrous as you see in the above photo. As a result of inadequate thinning, the airbrush spun cotton candy-like floss.
The current overall look of 00 Gundam with the traditional white, red & blue paint done. If you’ve noticed, the V-fin is actually missing from the shoot. Don’t worry, I’ll get to that later and explain what went wrong.

Looking at the GN-Shield, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. Reason being, it’s my first attempt at masking and airbrushing 2 different colors on a single piece of plastic.
Looking great on closeup at one side, until you moved to look at the other.. XD

sloppy masking, or rather incompetent masked has caused the blue paint to spill over onto the white portion :s

the same thing occurred on one of  the arm :s x 2  GN-Drive, the cone is okay however, the same cannot be said for its blue counterpart. See the dust that was caught together with the paint during airbrushing phase? It left behind a rough finish on the surface :s x 3

This picture looks normal at the first look, don’t you agree?  If you looked closely enough, the blue are actually of 2 different shades. The main body is actually much darker & glossy than the shoulder. You see, I was attempting to recreate the light blue hue that was frequently used by Keita but again being my first attempt, I messed up. And instead of removing the paint first before redoing the paint-job, I simply airbrush over it with the correct blue . You can see the result above; a dull,dark blue which had a glossy finish. :s x 4

And now answering the question posed earlier, “what happened to the V-fin?” See the above picture for the answer. It was supposedly beautiful done until my clumsy hands accidentally held the wet freshly painted surface. :s x 5 Despite these hiccups, I’ve learnt quite abit from this excercise and have made mental notes to myself on what not to do in order to avoid repeating the same mistakes on future builds.
